In 2019, the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library unveiled a multi-paneled mural in their Youth Wing featuring work by Yuyi as well as noted illustrators, Christopher Myers, Selina Alko, and Paul Zelinsky. In her 8 x 11 foot mural panel, Yuyi depicted herself and her son, Kelly, in the style of her book, Dreamers.
Yuyi told Publisher’s Weekly “When I was a new immigrant, the public library became my home […] When I was asked to make a panel for BPL, I knew immediately that this was my opportunity for the mother and the baby from Dreamers to get to live inside a library.”
