Let me tell you about A Step from Heaven
Among the waves I meet Young Ju.
At four, Young Ju and her parents left Korea and boarded a plane that flew high and far all the way to heaven. Or, was it heaven? At this place where they arrived, long-gone grandpa was not waiting for them as Young Ju had expected. Instead, giant people rose like in the stories grandmother used to tell.
No, this was not heaven but the United States, where Young Ju had come to become an American girl. At the same time, her father, a disillusioned man who fell deeper into alcoholism, expected Young Ju to live under their old traditions where a woman had no choices.
In a life of poverty and hopelessness, Young Ju had a hard task ahead. Recognizing the courage of her hard working mother, and understanding the pain of her younger brother, she set into a journey to discover her own desire for a life where a woman can take her own decisions.
When the breeze took my vessel away, Young Ju was no longer a child but a courageous teenager. And she was strong.
