La Valiente. <\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cThis is my Loteria card, La Valiente<\/em>, the brave one. I have created it re-imagining the popular bingo-like game that I played growing in Mexico as a child and an emigrant living and working in the USA. Ever since its inception, Loteria card images have played an important role in social commentary, as the artwork depicts cultural and political events of the times. My cards refers to The Valiant, which in the most traditional version of Loteria depicts a macho man carrying a knife in one hand and a zarape in the other one. For a long time I have felt a great need to redefine and to debunk the patriarchal narrative of what it means to be brave, but never more so after the election.
